A Blessing for Lent
May you be blessed with the stubborn hope that keeps believing, even when all evidence points to the contrary.
Hi friends,
Before we jump into this week’s Field Notes, some good news: I’ll be joining my dear friend
for his fantastic Good Soil book tour in Austin and Houston this April! That’s right, Texas, these two hooligans are headed your way for an evening of conversation about books, belonging, God, food, and at least half a dozen unexpected rabbit trails, too, knowing us.
We would absolutely love to see your faces there. Any opportunity for good conversation, beautiful books, and feeling a little less alone is vital these days.
Here is the link for info and tickets for our Houston event on April 5.
Here is the link for info and tickets to our Austin event on Sunday April 6.
Of course, there are a dozen other stops on his book tour with absolutely incredible conversation partners along the way (Krista Tippett! Barbara Brown Taylor! Austin Channing Brown! Amena Brown! James K.A. Smith and Spencer LaJoye! and even more!) so if you can’t join us in Texas, please click here to see if there is a city in your neck of the woods and make plans to get your people together for the evening. Hope to see you there!
Now let’s get to this week’s Field Notes, shall we? Instead of sending you the draft version of my strongly worded resignation letter from the post as one of many Emotional Support Canadians due to, well, EVERYTHING *sob*, I thought I’d focus elsewhere this week. Look, I’m trying.
40 Simple Practices for Lent
If you are looking for some ideas on how to observe Lent this year, here are 40 Simple Practices for Lent I created a few years ago for us. You could do all forty but honestly, that sounds exhausting so perhaps choose just a few of the practices there to keep things simple this year. (I’ve removed the paywall from it, so that everyone can access it and you can share it with your people, too.) However you observe Lent, it’s my hope that you find goodness somewhere in these days.
A Blessing for The Beginning of Lent
As Lent begins, let’s circle up together to bless these days.
