Hi friends,

It’s snowing outside my window and honestly, is there a better time to talk about books and read books and buy books and borrow books than in the wintertime? I posit not.

It’s about that time when I should be compiling my annual Favourite Books of the year but when I started, I realized that I hadn’t actually shared what I’ve been reading with you since September! It’s been a busy autumn and winter, eh? So this week, I thought I’d catch you up on what’s been on the side table in my little reading nook during this season. Then, next week, I’ll share my proper Favourite Books of 2025 round up with my tip-top reads for both fiction and non-fiction with you. (That’s always one of my favourite comment sections of the year. I always max out my library holds queue after I read through your favourites of the year, too.)

For our new subscribers, once a quarter or so I usually share the books I’ve been reading lately along with a genuine ‘review’ with my honest thoughts. (Hence, the paywall.) If you’d like to get an idea for my taste, you can check out September’s edition as well as June’s book chat and the one that kicked off the year in February.

Below, you’ll find a smattering of everything from an essay collection on Canadian identity to rom-com faves, cozy mysteries and deeply transformative spiritual books, Indigenous wisdom and pathways for resistance to empire, poetry to prayers, as well as a popular everyone-is-talking-about-it memoir that I really, really did not like 🫣 plus much, much more.
