My Favourite Books of 2024
The five faves for fiction and nonfiction books - plus 5 books for your 2025 TBR
Hi friends,
In Field Notes tradition,1 I’m excited to share my favourite reads from 2024 with you. As of right now, I’ve read 120 books, give or take, throughout the year, but these are my own ten best for fiction and non-fiction (five titles apiece, I’m trying to be merciful in length here!), plus a few honourable mentions (so not trying TOO hard at brevity, you understand). I even added a little preview for 2025 to share five books that are releasing in the new year that definitely deserve a spot on your TBR2 shelf.
Open up your library request page or online/local retailer of choice3 and let’s build up that To-Be-Read pile or a Christmas wish list made of entirely books.
But first, thank you!
Before we jump in, I did want to thank you all for your kind support of my own 2024 book, Field Notes for the Wilderness: Practices For An Evolving Faith (and her guided journal companion).
Thanks to you, my fifth book became an international bestseller(!) but honestly, my favourite part has been/always is you.
Thank you for buying my books,4 for talking about them to your friends or co-conspirators or social media followers, for pressing them into the hands of your friends just entering their own wilderness (I never get over how beautiful it is to be trusted with your people), requesting these titles at your library, putting the latest one on your own year-end lists or under the Christmas tree, and best of all: actually reading my stuff. I never take any of this for granted. I never forget that you’re really-real people and somehow, through these pages, we are alongside of each other. I’m so grateful.
(Pssst…right now, I’m hard at work on two new book projects and I’m excited to share those with you in 2025 and 2026 so stay tuned!)
Now, let’s get to it! As always, these are the books I read this year, not the books that were released this year. I’m often a bit behind due to my towering TBR pile so I look forward to reading more 2024 books in, oh, 2028.
