Hi friends,

We had our typical spring blizzard this past weekend and so, despite the fact that I know many of you are in full flowers-and-sunshine mode that is decidedly not my journey. To take a little breather, I figured we could all use this week’s Field Notes to talk about a few good things.

We have a lot of new subscribers around here, so for the uninitiated, once a quarter or so, we take a break to take about the small - or maybe not-so-small - things that are bringing a bit of goodness to us.1 I’ll share anything from what I’m eating/drinking to reels (I’m old, I don’t do the TikToks), music, knitting, stuff I like, and whatever else - and then you get to do the same in the comments. It’s a nice little pick-me-up of good when everything around us feels like a beat-down.

And just as a reminder, this is a sponsored-content-free zone because I’m nobody’s influencer.2 These are just things I genuinely experienced myself and/or paid for myself, so I feel good talking about them with you.

First, A Surprising Good Thing

One personal good thing that happened recently was that the lovely folks over at Sojourners included me in their list of 12 Christian Women Shaping the Church in 2025.

I usually fly pretty far under the radar of the zeitgeist, so this was a pleasant, if shocking, affirmation. However, please do check out all the women named there. It was so encouraging to read about their work and witness; they will definitely bring a lot of goodness to your life.

📖 A Good Line Worth Holding Onto

“In this troubled world, it would be a crime to snuff out any flicker of happiness that somehow flames up into life.” ~ Margaret Renkl, The Comfort of Crows

📚 Reading

For my fellow bookworms, our latest Book Corner is right here with all my favourite recent reads. We’re having a great chat in the comments about books there, too.

Reading is one way we are reminded: stay human.
