I rather love the idea of the Holy Spirit as a wild goose. Anyone who has been chased by a goose or heard their HISSSSSSSSS knows this is no tame bird!
I love the image of the Holy Spirit as a wild goose—untamed, unpredictable, and impossible to ignore. Having been chased as a child, I know firsthand that this is no tame bird! It’s a powerful reminder that God’s Spirit disrupts, challenges, and awakens us.
Now is not the time to sit silent. Millions of Jews in the 30s went silently to the gas chambers. Americans are facing atrocities never before seen. HORRORS many actually VOTED FOR. Awareness is not fear mongering. I learned this from my neighbor, a Holocaust survivor. For those of us who choose to resist, yes we pray, be a light to the world, but we do NOT sit silent. Silence can be deadly.
I hear your passion and conviction, and I absolutely agree—now is not the time for silence. History has shown us the devastating consequences of indifference, and we have a responsibility to stand for truth, justice, and love. Being a light in the world means both prayer and action, speaking up and resisting oppression in all its forms. Thank you for sharing your neighbor’s wisdom—survivors remind us why we must never be complacent. May we each have the courage to use our voices and stand firm in hope.
Oh my goodness. Just what I needed to hear! My anger and despair have been threatening the Spirit's call to love and telling me that Love does not "win" after all. Thank you for this rousing cheer for courageous Love! Gimme an "L!"
Thank you, Sarah. I needed this so much today. I will read it again and I will read it to my family and we can say it together like a Creed. Thank you.
oh my gosh Sarah, amen and amen! such stunning, beautiful words, I need to write them in my journal to etch them into memory so that I can recall them when hope fades. Thank you for lighting the dark with your poetry.
I am reading Field Notes for the Wilderness and sitting with “Remember to be For, not just against” our world needs builder-uppers MORE than tearer-downers; time to build….
Sarah, this post blew me away and right into the arms of Jesus. Thanks for the reminder. By the way, I also loved the vision of the Holy Spirit as a wild goose. We have them around here year round, I love their sense of community.
Thank you so much for your words. I was almost ready to give up in these dark days for the world. Thank you for reminding me that prayer and love make a difference.
We bring order to the chaos by showing up fully to attend to the small things. We turn our lens inward to find the light that God put there and then we shine that light on our circle of influence to offer whatever hope we can.
Thank you for your inspiring words. It reminds me that the WAY we live out faith and love in the world matters. We all have different personalities and contribute to the expression of Christ-like love in unique ways. Jesus and his disciples were a small group of diverse outcasts that changed the world by daring to love the world into wholeness. It’s still our mission today!

I'm glad I wasn't the only child traumatized by a goose chase!
I absolutely loved feeding the ducks at the pond until I saw the goose gang 😂
Definitely not
Count me in. My great grandparents had them. Penned or not, they're Houdini birds. Ugh.
Thank you, Sarah, for these powerful words. I deeply resonate with this call to stand in love, resist despair, and keep showing up with hope.
Breath Prayer for Strength
Inhale: You are my strength.
Exhale: I will not fear.
Inhale: Love is the truest reality.
Exhale: I will walk in it.
